13 Months

Isaac at 13 months is a lot of fun! We're loving having an independent, playful, chatty boy.

This past month he celebrated his second St. Patrick's Day with his first corned beef feast. He's walking like a mad man and is so content with the independence that his new skill brings. With crawling he stuck pretty close to me, but now, he takes off in a near sprint whenever he spots a dog or an interesting plant at the park.

He still loves his ducks and the ducks love him. His loyal followers know that Isaac in the yard means bread!

Still no new words yet, but he chatters all day long. He tries very hard to say the words he wants, and sometimes comes close in mimicking the sounds that Joe and I make. Duck and dog, two of his favorite and oft used words, come out as "doh dah". I would be surprised if he didn't roll out with some new words in the next couple of months.

He knows all of the signs we've introduced - some of which he can sign back and others which he just responds to.

He knows:

He has perfected his "all done" and uses it to say "no" or "stop", as well. After getting frustrated, he's signed it to his toys, and once with a stranger who was getting a little too close.


Isaac is extremely demanding and possessive of Joe when he's home. Often, he'll shoo me away on Saturday morning if it seems as though I'm going to do anything to interrupt the time spent with his arms around Daddy's neck. He follows him around like a shadow on the weekends and "tells" him all about the things we did when he gets home from work.

 He loves taking Rufus for walks and will find his leash and try to hook him to it... even at 6:30am.

And now knows how to throw a ball, much to Rufus' delight.

Isaac is an avid (and talented) climber. He can climb into things...

 ... and on top of things. He has shifted away from his traditional type of play with his toys and is now onto climbing and conquering everything in the house. This has added some frustration because although he wants to do something new or different with his toys, he can't always express what it is or doesn't want my help in doing it.

The biggest (and scariest) addition to his repertoire is climbing on furniture.

As you can tell he's very satisfied with all of the new, adventurous things he can do... and so are we.
