Birthday Recap

Isaac's first birthday was a two week-long celebration full of fanfare, doting, gifts, travel and visitors.

It started off with a short trip back to DFW to see my family while my sister and brother in-law were visiting from Kenya. While at my mom's, Isaac got to spend lots of time pestering is favorite playmate, Luke. This summer Isaac will no longer be the littlest cousin once we welcome Luke's twin sisters to the world!
The bib was to help keep him dry during his teething-induced slobberfest.

Our family has stockpiled most of the birthdays into one month, specifically, into the latter half of one month. In February, there are birthdays on the 15th (Leah), 17th (Mom), 19th (Luke), and 20th (Steve) with Isaac rounding it out on the 27th. So one night we had a big party to celebrate all of the February babies and grown-ups complete with mexican food and cupcakes.
Happy Birthdays!
Once back in Houston we got ready for a visit from Grandma and Grandpa. What birthday would be complete without some balloons?
It also wouldn't be complete without some doting grandparents:

After Isaac's favorite breakfast of Mommy's homemade waffles and a nap, there was birthday cake!
I made a healthy cake full of all of the things that Isaac loves: raisins, carrots, applesauce... wheat germ?
Then we let him have at it.

At first he wasn't sure about the cold, sticky (greek yogurt) icing.
But after a little encouragement he realized that there was tasty goodness underneath.
He was kind enough to share some with Daddy.

Grandma and Grandpa have gone back home, but the impact of their weekend visit remains...
Monday, his actual birthday, was spent just me and him. We started it off with a trip to daily mass. On our way out, the priest stopped us and asked Isaac's name. I told him and also mentioned that it was his birthday. That created quite a scene! The priest wished him a very enthusiastic "happy birthday!" and other parishioners joined in. Before I knew it, everyone was gathered around kissing Isaac's cheeks and giving him blessings. In true Catholic fashion, the old ladies patted my stomach in search for a baby bump and asked "just the one so far?" Father ran across the street to the rectory, came back, and handed a gift to Isaac, a rosary that he had brought back from Jerusalem and offered Isaac and our family a special birthday blessing. It was a great start to the day.

Thank you to everyone for the calls, cards, gifts, well wishes and shared memories. It was truly a special day.
