Cowboy for a Day

One of the great things about living far outside the city is our proximity to wide open country space. We walk every morning in a small farming community just outside of our neighborhood and have made friends with a few of its residents. One sweet older couple loves to nurture Isaac's interest in horses and often invite us into their stables for a look at their show horses. They were taking care of their neighbor's miniature horse and asked us to tag along.

The barn cat took a liking to him and he was uncomfortable with her getting too close at first, but it didn't take long before he was following her around saying "tat! tat!"
Our new equine friend is named Cowboy and he and Isaac have a special bond.
Isaac was as uninterested in the thoroughbreds as they were in him. He much preferred his pint-sized pal.

These two had a real connection. When I finally told him it was time to say bye-bye to the horses he gave me the most genuinely heartbroken look that included a quivering lip and misty eyes. I was a hare's breath from promising him a pony.
We've been invited back and told to put Isaac in long pants so he can sit atop Cowboy's saddle next time. Looks like we have some boot shopping to do!
