Beach

Over Memorial Day weekend, after talking about it for a few months now, we finally decided to jump on taking a day trip to the beach. The coast is just over an hour away from us and given Isaac's interest in sand and water we thought it would make a perfect family outing. We were right! He dove straight into the sand and had to be coaxed out of the water. While I didn't get any shots of him in the water, rest assured that there were many giggles and squeals as the waves crashed into his belly.
Sampling the sand. Verdict: not-so tasty.
We have a few options for beaches and decided to try out Surfside first. It was fun and low key, but also had a choppy surf and lots of seaweed, which wasn't the most conducive to toddler wading. Next time we'll test out another beach, probably Galveston, so any recommendations are appreciated.

We weren't sure how we were going to get Isaac some rest. He still takes two naps a day and the boy needs his naps if he and those around him are going to have a pleasant time! We considered not leaving home until after his morning nap to ensure that he got at least one good leg of sleep, but I'm so happy that we left first thing in the morning. Not only did we beat the traffic, but Isaac took a sweet mid-morning snooze inside of our REI tent.  We arrived at the beach at 8am and left at 1:30pm before the afternoon heat wore us all out and in time for us to get de-sanded and get some rest.

While looking at these beach pictures I couldn't believe how grown-up he looks. Can we talk about how much bigger he's gotten in 2 months' time?!

Anyway, we had a great time at the beach. With it being so close and costing nothing other than a couple gallons of gas, we'll hopefully be enjoying a few more visits before summer's over.
